Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust

The closing date is 17 October 2024

Job summary

Internal applications only

This new post has been developed in response to the need for a better managed surgical pathway for children with Cerebral Palsy undergoing multi-level or single site orthopaedic surgery (SEMLS) at SCH

The success of this surgery is very much dependant on the co-ordination of the rehabilitation pathway required by children at risk of altered tone and asymmetrical postures and is an integral part of the overarching spasticity / postural management service at SCH.

The post holder will support all aspects of the SEMLS pathway from pre-admission to ongoing rehabilitation in the community, acting as an advocate for the family and ensuring seamless transition from one stage to the next.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide a highly specialised service and practice at an advanced clinical level to determine clinical interventions and effective treatment plans for children with Cerebral Palsy on the SEMLS or CPIPS pathway
  • To be a recognised source of expertise, demonstrating advanced knowledge, experience and clinical reasoning in the highly skilled management of children on these pathways.
  • To provide leadership and expert advice to other professional staff and to provide clinical education and training to all levels of staff within the team as well as students, medical and nursing colleagues.
  • To implement and evaluate a comprehensive protocol driven rehabilitation service for children with Cerebral Palsy undergoing surgical procedures.
  • To work in collaboration with the Orthopaedic Consultants, Clinical Nurse Specialists, local Therapists and other professionals involved in the child's care.
