Job summary
We are seeking to recruit a Band 8a Senior CBT Psychotherapist to provide leadership and clinical expertise within our Chronic Fatigue and Long Covid clinical pathway in Paediatric Psychology. Your role will involve supporting and developing colleagues working in the pathway, to lead the development of CBT within the service and to represent CBT within senior leadership forums.
This post is open to experienced clinicians from a range of professional backgrounds who have gained full CBT accreditation. This is an exciting and newly defined role, providing you with the scope to work closely with a supportive leadership team to develop an effective and high-quality CBT pathway.
This post is permanent 2 and a half days a week with an additional 2 days a week temporary element until 31st March 2025. (NB Temporary element likely to be extended beyond March 2025)
Main duties of the job
- To lead the CBT pathway within Paediatric Psychology and ensure the service continues to deliver excellent care for children, young people and families.
- To provide assessment, treatment, and formulation for complex presentations.
- To provide line management and clinical supervision to colleagues in the team.
- To contribute to teaching, training, and skills development in the team.

Qualifications and Training
Essential
- Core mental health professional training in Clinical Psychology, Counselling Psychology, Nursing, Social Work, Psychotherapy or equivalent, together with post degree diploma level training in CBT
- Completion of a recognised High Intensity supervision course provided by an IAPT approved Higher Education provider (e.g. Royal Holloway)
- HCPC approved member or full accreditation with the BABCP for a significant length of time.
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
Desirable
- Pre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, training and/or other fields of applied psychology.
- Further training in supervision.
Experience
Essential
- Demonstrable experience in providing CBT assessments and treatments across a range of severities and presentations.
- Experience of working with a wide variety of child mental health problems across the full age range, reflecting all levels of severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
- Experience of line management, case management and clinical supervision of qualified therapists and therapists in training.
- Ability to work within a multi disciplinary team and across a complex multi agency system.
