Job summary
The Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP) role is an exciting opportunity to deliver evidence-based early interventions for children and young people in, around and through their educational settings.
We are in search of individuals who are committed to making a significant, long-term difference in Sheffield through their contributions to the MHST service.
Sheffield MHST started in January 2020 and currently works with 60 schools.
Applicants are required to have a degree. Experience working with children and young people, mental health, and the educational system in England is highly desirable.
Candidates will be able to grow professionally through comprehensive training in their first year. They will be required to work full time, 9 - 5 pm.

Please note there will be three stages to this interview process:
- Stage 1: Submission of a 500-word essay
- Stage 2: MHST Interview
- Stage 3: University Interview
Interviews will be in early October in Sheffield.
Successful candidates need to be available to start February 2024, and comply with registration requirements by a nationally organised body once qualified.

Main duties of the job
Successful candidates will be offered a full-time education programme specifically for the role in partnership with the University of Sheffield. The training post will be funded at NHS Band 4 scale, with guaranteed employment upon completion of training and attainment of EMHP qualification. The starting salary for a qualified EMHP is based on the NHS Band 5 scale.The training programme for this post starts in Spring 2024, is 12 months in duration and will consist of academic and supervised practice learning within educational settings across Sheffield.
Delivery of the programme will be provided through a combination of taught days within the university, independent self-guided study days and experience gained in educational settings and mental health services.
Staff will spend three days a week within the MHST service, two of these based in schools and two days per week at the University of Sheffield, enhancing their skills and knowledge.
