Job summary

This is a senior technical role to the successful operation and development of the ICT Infrastructure and requires excellent communication and problem solving skills to manage an incident to resolution, managing technical resources, working with other ICT support resources and third party suppliers to completion where necessary The IT Technical Specialist will manage senior ICT technical support (3rd line) resources to users throughout the Trust specialising in technology related to some or all of the following:

  • Servers and Data Centre: hosting corporate and clinical applications, along with infrastructure administration.
  • Network: Local and Wide Area Network, and links to wider NHS and third parties.
  • Telecoms: all telecommunication technology and 3rd party services

Main duties of the job

  • To be an acknowledged technical expert in their designated areas (network, servers and/or telecoms) and to develop their colleagues' skills in these areas.
  • To lead in their area of the Trust's infrastructure with the design, configuration and set up of that area.

To provide a technical escalation point for the rest of the ICT Support function as appropriate

Essential

  • oExperience in supporting IT at 3rd level in a large organisation
  • oAcknowledged expert in their field
  • oExperience working in an ITIL based environment.
  • oExtensive experience of the support and management in the relevant area with broad knowledge of the other area (Server/Network/Telecoms)

Desirable

  • oExperience of working in the NHS or other public sector environment.
  • oExperience working in a PRINCE2 environment

  • oExcellent Communication skills - ability to explain complex, technical issues to non-technical people.
  • oExcellent PC skills including hardware and software
  • oAbility to explain work priorities to customers, particularly those whose items have been given a lower priority
