Sheffield Children's Hospital is excited to be expanding our CAMHS Duty team and pleased to be seeking an enthusiastic, experienced mental health practitioner for this post.
The post holder will take responsibility for daily referrals meeting where all CAMHS referrals are triaged as an MDT, consultation calls to support those awaiting an initial assessment and professionals seeking referrals and lastly rapid response appointments for young people presenting as high risk. Those young people seen in appointments will be offered follow up and being on your caseload.
The successful candidate must display a passion and understanding regarding the complexities and risk of the young people and have demonstrated good therapeutic skills in order to build positive relationships.
The post holder will access an induction period and be well supported by the Duty team lead. They will have day to day responsibilities for their own caseload and will also be as to supervise others.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing their own case load, assessing the mental health needs of young people, providing support and interventions to young people.
To undertake initial, comprehensive assessments for those presenting with high risk to themselves, queried first episode psychosis or a rapid deterioration in their mental health presentation. These assessments will need to take a holistic approach in supporting families and subsequently develop an agreed plan of care with the young person and where appropriate include the view of the families and carers.

- To work as an independent practitioner have accountability and responsibility for your own caseload
- To work autonomously and collaboratively with colleagues providing interventions at the clinical base, clients homes or other appropriate venues
- To demonstrate skills within assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care / treatment packages for children, young people and families
- To demonstrate clinical practice over a range of evidence based interventions.
- To work in collaboration with colleagues working in Specialist CAMHS and the wider education and social care network to provide a holistic package of care / treatment for identified children, young people and families
- To contribute towards MDT team development by attending daily huddle meetings to ensure holistic approaches for young people accessing care.
- To maintain confidentiality of information regarding children, young people and families
- Provide and receive complex or sensitive information where there are barriers to understanding and to be proactive, having the ability to pre- empt work with and overcome barriers to communication
- To work within and promote collaborative and partnership working, with both colleagues and the client group
- To promote and maintain effective communication and positive working relationships throughout the Team and wider services, both internal and external to CAMHS
- To promote and maintain effective communication with children, young people and families, ensuring lines of communication are open to them so that they are able to participate fully within their care.
