We are delighted to offer a full time position in our portering team based at the Sheffield Children's hospital, this role will be working 37.5 hours per week over 7 days.
Main duties of the job
To provide a portering and security service to include the removal and safe disposal of waste and, the movement of equipment, documentation and specimens.
All work must be carried out in line with the Health and Safety, Infection Prevention, Security and all Trust Policies and Procedures.
The Hotel Services Assistant must be flexible and be able to work as part of a team and they must be able to deal with patients, staff and visitors in a pleasant and co-operative manner.

Job description
Job responsibilities
- To transport patients on bed trolleys or in wheelchairs to all areas of the hospital. This includes the transportation of deceased
- To order, maintain and exchange medical gas cylinders and move around site, to include Nitrous
- To respond to emergency situations including but not exhaustive to , Trauma, Cardiac and Fire, assisting in collection and delivery of equipment and ensuring correct policies and procedures are
- To respond when emergency Helicopter Ambulance arrives, stopping traffic, clearing the area and assisting in patient transfer into
- To transport and deliver food and non-food items around the hospital to include Ryegate where
- To collect and deliver linen from all wards and departments and receive and distribute
- To collect and deliver specimens and bloods to and from wards and
Access blood bank when required, matching blood codes bound by signatory accountability and follow strict auditable documentation which is time bound.
- To transfer deceased patients to the mortuary in the event of a bereavement out of hours and to follow the agreed procedure for registering and storing the body
- To deliver parcels and post around the
- Ad-hoc movement of furniture and equipment at main site and
- To collect and dispose of all waste, clinical and non-clinical in accordance with departmental
- To deliver and return hot food trolleys to wards and any other related food items.
- To participate in the chargehand shift When undertaking chargehand duties, prioritise emergency calls and organise shift cover outside of management hours.
- To support other teams within the Hotel Services department, when availability on rota'

- To respond to any security calls from within the main hospital
- To carry out routine security checks on all internal and external doors, document and communicate to
- To ensure that the correct documentation is filled in after every incident and communicated to
- Provide a first line response to violent and aggressive persons within the hospital, and where necessary restraining and escorting persons from site in order to maintain a safe environment within the hospital.
- To be responsible for viewing of CCTV cameras and liaising with staff and police on viewing as
- To provide support to ward staff and patients with physical and mental health needs, providing prolonged cover when requested by senior site manager/security manager or charge hand porter.
