Job summary

Post CCT Clinical Fellow, Embrace Neonatal & Paediatric Critical Care Transport

Applications are invited for post CCT clinical fellow (middle grade) to join an innovative team dedicated to the safe transport of infants and children across the Yorkshire and Humber region. This is an exciting opportunity for a one-year post with a training curriculum adapted to needs of the applicant. The post holder will gain experience in the stabilization and transfer of sick neonates and older children, the day to day running of a transport service as well as additional training on PICU, NICU and anaesthetics as required in order to complement their current skills. Applicants must have experience in paediatric intensive care as well as neonatal medicine.

Interviews will take place on 1st February 2024.

Main duties of the job

  • To act as a clinician for Embrace, Yorkshire and Humber Infant and Children's Transport Service.
  • To manage patient stabilisation and ensure a safe, efficient and cohesive transfer from referring centres to the accepting intensive care unit.
  • To undertake both neonatal and paediatric transfers once triaged by consultant on call. To contribute to research projects within Embrace.
  • To participate in the audit and clinical governance programme within the service. To participate in the educational programme for Embrace.

About us

Embrace was the first combined neonatal and paediatric transport service to be developed in the UK. It takes responsibility for the secondary transfer of neonates and critically ill children within the Yorkshire and Humber SHA and North Derbyshire / North Lincolnshire. Its main function is to transport patients into one of the two regional PICUs and between the Network Neonatal Units. On occasions when the clinical condition demands, or when capacity cannot be identified within the networks, the service will transport patients out-of-area. Embrace provides ground and air transport and is fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (www.camts.org) for ground, rotary wing and fixed wing operations. Embrace have over 3000 referrals/year and carry out over 2100 transfers per year.

Qualifications

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • MRCPCH or equivalent
  • CCT in Paediatrics, Anaesthesia or Paediatric Emergency Medicine
  • APLS/PALS and NLS provider - courses can be accessed at the beginning of the post if required
  • Fully registered with the GMC

Desirable

  • APLS/PALS/NLS/PANSTAR instructor

Experience

Essential

  • The appointees must have middle grade experience in paediatrics and neonatal medicine. Six months Paediatric Intensive care experience is required- ideally ST4-8 level.

  • Tertiary middle grade neonatal experience
