Job summary

This post will provide outstanding professional leadership to nurses within the Care Group and wider Trust. The role is a highly visible one to ensure that nursing makes the fullest contribution to the delivery of a high quality clinical, education and research service within the Care Group.

Main duties of the job

The Care Group Associate Director of Nursing (ADN) will work collaboratively and productively with the Associate Director and Clinical Director of the Care Group (Care Group Triumvirate) to provide assurance to the Executive Team and the Trust Board that robust systems of governance and excellence in nursing care are in place to enable the delivery of high-quality patient and family led services. This will also provide assurance that those services are meeting agreed objectives and delivered within budget.

The post holder is accountable for the safe, effective delivery of nursing care across all areas of the care group, for setting high standards and meeting the regulatory and commissioner requirements. They will enable nursing colleagues to feel actively engaged and be supported professionally to deliver the best possible care to patients and their families.

The ADN will proactively ensure that the nursing workforce remains appropriate for service demand by supporting the implementation of new workforce models.

The role involves working in partnership with other organisations in the provision and planning of health services, taking forward national and local policies, with drive, passion and enthusiasm to develop a long-term strategic vision that enables high quality and sustainable services.The post holder will deputise for the Deputy Chief Nurse as required.

Provide an operational, strategic and professional overview alongside expert nursing advice into the Care Group Management Triumvirate, ensuring that the voice of the child and family is considered at all times.Be managerially responsible for all colleagues within the sphere of responsibility. Lead colleagues in line with our CARE values, taking a person centred approach and ensuring colleagues feel supported and safe at work. Use improvement methodologies to work with colleagues to implement and evaluate the changes made.Co-design and develop services in partnership with service users to improve the child/ young person and family/carer experience. This will include wider engagement with external stakeholders.Participate in the annual budget setting process, to ensure that workforce plans are in line with financial planning, whilst maintaining workforce levels that deliver safe, high-quality care.Encourage a philosophy of continuous professional development amongst colleagues, leading by example.Facilitate the development of Matron, Ward Manager and Nurse Specialist roles, ensuring that they are empowered and supported as leaders.To support the Deputy Chief Nurse in the continuous cycle of nursing establishment review to identify, develop and support the implementation new models of working and new roles whilst maintaining safety and efficiency and the reduction of temporary staff spendEnsure that all care delivered adheres to the CQC standards, legislation, the organisations policies and procedures and is measured and monitored to ensure it is reliable and of a consistently high standard.

Ensure that there are effective and robust mechanisms in place which meet National and Local requirements for Safeguarding Adults & Children, working closely with the Safeguarding Team.Establish effective professional, multidisciplinary relationships both within the Trust and with external partner organisations, such as Integrated Care Boards, Local Authority Services, other Care Providers, Operational Delivery networks, Universities and Voluntary Sector to develop mutually beneficial partnerships and to progress the shared agenda.Ensure robust escalation/ contingency plans are in place to respond to times of unexpected increased demand on services or unusual difficulties with workforce numbers due to a pandemic, winter pressures, or Major Incident.
