Job summary

The Becton Centre for Children and Young People is one of the largest providers of specialist Tier 4 CAMHS in the UK.

We are looking to appoint a dynamic, enthusiastic and highly motivated registered nurse to join our established nursing team.

Main duties of the job

The Becton Centre for Children and Young people comprises of three units Emerald Lodge up to 13 years age. Sapphire Lodge 13-18 and Ruby Lodge Learning Disabilities and mental Health up to the age of 18. As a site we offer assessment, care and treatment for young people who are experiencing complex mental health, emotional and behavioural issues.

Our Multi-Disciplinary team comprises of Psychiatrists, Nurses, Health Care Support Workers, Psychologist, therapists, teachers, admin and support services who are committed to develop a service that provides high quality care for children and families.

We will provide, A full induction. The opportunity to further enhance your knowledge and skills. Regular management and clinical supervision. Training and Development opportunities and Preceptorship for newly qualified nurses.

Job responsibilities

Communication and Relationship skills

  • To maintain confidentiality of information regarding children, young people, families and individual staff at all times.
  • Provide and receive complex or sensitive information.
  • To work within and promote collaborative and partnership working, with both colleagues and the client group.
  • To promote and maintain effective communication and positive working relationships throughout the Unit and wider services, both internal and external to CAMHS.
  • To promote and maintain effective communication and positive therapeutic relationships with children, young people and families.
  • To act as an advocate for children young people and families.
  • To attend and participate within regular Unit meetings.
  • To liaise with and report issues, concerns or untoward incidents to the nurse in charge, deputy / Unit Manager, CAMHS Tier 4 Senior Nurse Manager or the on call CAMHS Manager.

Knowledge, Training and Experience

  • To have RMN / RN (Mental Health) or RNLD / RN (Learning Disabilities) registration and use this knowledge in the daily care of children, young people and families.
  • To carry out the duties as directed by the NMC and within the Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Able to assess, plan implement and evaluate programmes of care for children, young people and families who require a Tier 4 service.
  • Act as a preceptor / mentor for newly registered staff nurses and student nurses.
  • Identify own personal and professional needs through the personal development review and clinical supervision process.
  • To ensure that personal mandatory and statutory training requirements are met in accordance with Sheffield Childrens NHS Foundation Trust policies.
  • Develop skills and knowledge in assessing clinical risk and its management and are able to interpret client clinical presentation information and take appropriate action.
  • Develop skills and knowledge in the safe administration of medicines including those that are classed as Controlled as per Trust policies.
