Job summary
An exciting and unique opportunity for enthusiastic band 6 nurses or above to join Embrace, Yorkshire and Humber Infant and Children's Transport Service as Trainee Advanced Nurse Practitioners. The successful candidates should have a strong background in either Paediatric or Neonatal Intensive Care. Previous transport experience is not required but is desirable.
Embrace is a highly specialist, round-the-clock transport service for critically ill infants and children in Yorkshire and the Humber who require care in another hospital in the region or further afield. Each year our specialist teams of nurses, advanced nurse practitioners, doctors and drivers transfer more than 2,200 infants and children by road ambulances, helicopters and fixed wing aircraft.
Main duties of the job
The role of the Trainee Advanced Nurse Practitioner will be to develop the clinical skills and knowledge required to work independently as a transport practitioner over a 3 year course at the University of Sheffield. The post holder will be competent in the assessment and management of critically ill children and infants requiring transfer to regional intensive care facilities.
The post holder will be working to achieve a Masters degree in Advanced Nursing Practice in their background speciality. During the 3 year course, you will be working alongside both medical and nurse practitioner mentors to gain further skills in clinical assessment, diagnosis and management with ongoing supervision to develop independent practice.

The ANP team at Embrace work autonomously on the tier 2 rota covering the dual specialities of neonates and paediatrics. The role is split 80:20 (clinical : Non - clinical respectively) giving time for individuals to meet the other 3 pillars of Advanced Practice - Education, Leadership, Service Development and Research. Alongside this we offer regular clinical supervision and an education / training program for both specialities.

Year 1
The first year should have non rostered supernumerary status during which the trainee should have one day per week to attend the required study modules in University and 1 day a week to support on going development of clinical skills, experience and confidence to practice.
Year 2
The second year tACP would require study time to attend the required module(s) and 1 day a week non rostered status same as the 1st year trainees. The rest of the trainees time would be rostered work where the tACP will be seeing patients under supervision and increasing their breadth and depth of knowledge.
Year 3
Trainee ACPs with a Post Graduate Diploma working towards full MSc Advanced Practice (Dissertation module) should have a minimum of 3 hours protected study time per week which can be aggregated per month (e.g. one day every 2 weeks) to support the dissertation module and service development work.
