Job summary

The Lead Cancer Team is seeking to appoint a Cancer Support Manager following an impending retirement. You will be expected to provide high quality leadership supported by the MDT Cancer Team leader to ensure the delivery of the national standards/national cancer wait time targets. The Cancer Support Manager will help monitor the performance and the sustainability of the Cancer Wait Time Targets across Divisions and the site-specific tumour specialities. You will develop a strong link with the Information department to ensure the patient tracker list (PTL) is accurate and fit for purpose. You will also need to support and work closely and collaboratively with the Cancer Data Quality and Information Lead in ensuring the accuracy, completeness and the analysis and reporting of the data for internal and external trajectories and forecasting for the delivery of the national CWT/IPT targets and also the Cancer and Diagnostic targets where appropriate. This information will be communicated to operational colleagues and other departments across the trust. You will support the management of actions necessary to ensure all CWT pathway validation, administration of clinical harm reviews and system data correction is undertaken in a timely and robust manner.

Main duties of the job

You will work closely within the Cancer Lead Team to ensure operational colleagues and other departments across the trust are aware ofcancer performance and cancer PTL management to support effective cancer patient timed pathways. You will develop and maintain close liaisons with consultants, patients, medical and nursing staff, support services and service managers and the need for confidentiality is integral to the post. As the Cancer Support Manager, you are expected to oversee and have responsibility for the tracking of all patients on a timed CWT pathway. You are responsible for the provision of a high standard of administrative service and the checking of the current holding status of this cohort of patients.

The role also requires handling complex and sensitive information. This will involve facilitating the Cancer PTL meetings and timely escalations to support compliance in line with the CWT performance and trajectories. In pursuing these duties, the post holder will ensure compliance with the NHS Constitution, Cancer Wait Time Guidance Version 12.1 and the Cancer Long Term Plan

MAIN DUTIES/KEY RESULT AREAS

Forecast, plan and implement action as required relevant to the management of patients on all cancer timed pathways for the achievement of access waiting times across all specialties.

To implement, plan and maintain accurate data systems and escalation processes to support achievement of the CWT Trajectories.

To supervise staff management of the Cancer PTL meeting, PTL escalation template completion, ensuring MDT staff have completed an up to date holding position and documented next steps required, MDT Admin staff attendance and undertake necessary validation as required.

To work closely with the Cancer Data Quality and Information Lead and provide operational cancer PTL information and advice as required to Directorate/Divisional Managers on all matters in relation to cancer PTL list management for patient safety incident reviews of cancer pathway breaches over 62 days and clinical harm review process for over 104 days.

To review and identify potential breaches in a timely manner to allow for corrective action to be taken as required ensuring breaches are avoided / minimised whilst ensuring appropriate escalation to senior management.

The Cancer Support Manager will provide advice on cancer pathways and ensure bespoke training is delivered by the Cancer Data Quality and Information Lead, with implemented competency assessments for the MDT Admin Team and where necessary within the trust.

To lead the team and coordinating workload on a day-to-day basis with the MDT Cancer Team Leader and Cancer Data Quality and Information Lead. This will involve recruitment, attendance case management, capability, disciplinary, high-quality appraisals, monitoring of mandatory training compliance and supporting the Cancer Data Quality and Information Lead with complex validation pathway queries.

To manage, monitor and authorise stock and non-stock requisitions to ensure that resources are used efficiently and effectively. To monitor the usage and allocation of office accommodation across the function to ensure the space is used effectively, liaising with IM&T and the Estates departments as required.
