Job summary

The post is based in the Rheumatology Department at AiredaleGeneral Hospital. Some clinics are undertaken at different sitessuch as at Skipton hospitalThe post holder will undertake outpatient clinics independently/autonomously, review inpatient referrals, manage day casepatients and work with the multidisciplinary team (if part timeworking, will predominantly be outpatient clinics with littlecommitment to inpatient referrals).The department has proactively developed services to improvepatient care and experience including setting up of telephoneclinics, e-consultation service, and group counselling clinics forboth bDMARDs and sDMARDs. We have developed a bespokeDMARD monitoring system on SystmOne (primary electronichealthcare record). Advise line calls and tasking between theclinical teams is done via SystmOne and this has improvedresponse times and efficiency. The post holder will be expected tobe actively involved in managing all these services. There is goodmultidisciplinary team support. The trust provides telemedicineservice (remote consultations) for multiple prisons in the UK.On appointment, the clinical lead will discuss and finalize the jobplan. The admin time per clinic would be 0.5 (0.25 standard clinicadmin + additional admin generated by advice line/CNS queries;long term disease/DMARD queries.). There are regular MDTmeetings weekly (rheumatology/ radiology MDT and rheumatologyteam internal MDT) which the post holder is expected toparticipate actively in.

Main duties of the job

The Departmento 2 Consultants; 1 Specialist grade doctor; 3 RheumatologySpecialist Nurses and two band 5 nurses (day unit) staff therheumatology department.o The department provides a specialty service to a localpopulation of approximately 240,000. The specialty caresfor rheumatology patients with a whole spectrum ofdiseases including complex connective tissue diseases,vasculitis and osteoporosis. It is a predominantly outpatientbased specialty with inpatient care provided jointly with thephysician colleagues. Day case infusions and proceduresincluding biologics, cyclophosphamide infusions, zoledronicacid infusions, nerve blocks and multiple joint injections areroutinely undertaken.o We have dedicated early arthritis clinics (2 per week) withearly access to patients with suspected inflammatoryarthritis. An excellent musculoskeletal radiology service isavailable with access to ultrasound, CT and MR imaging.We have a weekly meeting with a MSK radiologist.o The hospital has a DXA scanner and Fracture Liaison servicelead by rheumatology team.o We have combined renal/ rheumatology MDT (virtual) clinicsset up and recently started combined lung/ rheumatologyclinics.There are no on-call commitments in this post
