This post is to support a colleague going on secondment.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for dynamic and motivatedindividuals to join the enthusiastic consultants in the acute paediatricservice at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust. The department offers asupportive and encouraging environment for professionaldevelopment and a satisfying work life balance.
This 12 month NHS Locum post has been developed due to asecondment within the acute paediatric team. Following full middlegrade establishment paediatric consultants have become nonresidentat night.
The trust is attractive to SAS doctors due to its CESR programme,and it is an expectation that the post holders will also support thisdevelopment.
There has been a recent investment in the paediatric ward and theunit now has a dedicated assessment area to provide ambulatorycare and reduce the number of emergency admissions to our unit.
Further development of ambulatory care is a key part of our futurevision with system partners.
Main duties of the job
The role involves covering the children's ward and assessment unit,the neonatal unit and elective work, including clinics.
There will be an option for the appointee to take on the role of 'NamedDoctor for Safeguarding children' This is a shared role at Airedale anda senior community consultant holds half of the role. The optionwould be to take on the other half of this role with the support of ourexperienced safeguarding team.
Airedale has visiting specialists from the local teaching hospital inLeeds, including Cardiology, Endocrinology, Nephrology,
Rheumatology and various Paediatric surgical specialities. There isalso an established diabetes and allergy service, and we are a sharedcare site for paediatric oncology.
The appointee will be required to support tertiary rheumatology in ajoint clinic at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust with the consultant fromLeeds. No prior rheumatology experience is required. This would be auseful learning opportunity for the successful appointee.
The paediatric rota is a 1 in 10. Airedale has a paediatrician of theweek structure with one paediatrician covering the ward Monday -Saturday. The Monday to Friday paediatric shifts are 9-5 and there isa separate daily neonatal consultant who covers the long day 9am-9.30pm and is then non-resident on call overnight. The Friday longday consultant also covers the Sunday. Weekend shifts are 9-6pmand then non-resident on call until 9am the next day. (Please see thetimetable on page 6 of JD/SPec)
