Job summary
This post is designed to allow expansion of our middle grade tier to meet the increasing demand for care of frail older adults. We hope the post will attract Elderly Medicine doctors with the following backgrounds:
- Doctors interested in pursuing alternative training programs.
- Established non-training doctors looking to work in a high-performing, friendly and cohesive team
- Post foundation trainees looking at alternative pathways to specialist training.
Post-holders will be eligible for up to 10 days of study leave per year plus study budget. Non-clinical time is included in the job plan.
It is anticipated that full-time post-holders will work an average of 10 PAs per week. The successful applicant will contribute to an acute general medical on-call rota (1in10)
In pursuing these duties the post holder will ensure compliance with the NHS Constitution and be familiar with the NHS England Guidance 'Understanding the new NHS'.
Main duties of the job
The post is based in the Elderly Medicine wards at Airedale General Hospital.
The post holder/s will be responsible to the Elderly medicine consultants and will be expected to:
- Be involved in the management of in-patients on the elderly medicine wards.
- Be involved in the teaching of junior doctors and medical
- Undertake some administrative responsibilities, e.g. leading departmental teaching, participating in governance meetings
- Be involved with new service developments and portray efficient team ethos
The post-holder undertakes exceptionally to perform additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances essential to the continuity of patient care.
The post holder will be responsible to the Clinical Lead, with their management responsibility resting with the Operations Manager and Clinical Director for Geriatric Medicine. The post holder will allocated a clinical supervisor also.
The job plan is negotiable but it is proposed that for full time staff it will be 10 PAs with non- clinical time included in this.
This is a non-training post and therefore not approved by the Deanery. The post holder will, however, receive the same training and experience in line with existing trainee doctors.
