Job summary
The post-holder will lead a team consisting of five Dieteitians, a Dietetic Assistant Practitioner and a Dietetic Assistant. The team provides acute dietetic care for all adult wards within the trust as well as general outpatient clinics. The post holder will be the lead specialist dietitian providing acute nutrition support services, and will be the lead Dietitian working in gastroenterology providing specialist clinics in this area.
The acute dietetic team works from Airedale Hospital and the service operates Monday to Friday, but the post holder may be required to work out of normal office hours at times to support service developments.
Main duties of the job
- To be the lead specialist dietitian providing acute nutrition support services including gastroenterology, surgery and critical care within Airedale NHS Trust.
- To manage the Band 5 and Band 6 dietitians and the dietetic assistants who provide a service to adult acute wards.
- To work with the Service Manager for Dietetics informing them of current service provision, needs and pressures and to participate in identifying and planning specific service needs and developments in own specialist areas. To also deputise for the Service Manager when they are on leave to operationally manage the acute dietetics team.
4. To actively promote the identification and treatment of malnutrition in both the hospital and community in association with relevant health care professionals.
5. To communicate with other health and social care professionals within the multidisciplinary team who are involved in the patient's care so that consistent nutritional messages and safe and effective care is given.
