Job summary

This is a new post, and the successful applicants will join adepartment of 6 consultants and 1 specialist.

The postholder will provide senior support to the front-line work onthe Acute Assessment Unit (AAU) and the Ambulatory Care Unit(SDEC). This will also occasionally require in-reach to theEmergency Department when required.

There is also the opportunity to have DCC activity in other specialties including for example palliative care. We expect the provision of excellent care, comprehensive assessment, and appropriate timely discharges and/or onward referrals.

Airedale General Hospital work jointly with other local NHS providers in the region, including Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Bradford District Care Trust, to help ensure we can deliver a patient led collaborative service and thereby promoting a culture of safety and improvement.

Main duties of the job

The principal duties of this post are to deliver a high-quality service to Acute Internal Medicine patients. The appointee would be expected to:

o Provide clinical expertise and responsibility to the service interms of knowledge, clinical activity and guidance as needed.o Clinical and administrative responsibility for the properfunctioning of the Acute Internal Medicine Department.o Develop standards, procedures and robust systems in thedepartment to ensure safe, high quality and efficient patient carefrom the point of entry into the department to admission ordischarge from the department.o Supervision of the junior medical staff in the Unit who will haveopportunity to learn on a one-to-one basis on both formal andinformal rounds and also on ad hoc basis throughout the day.o Play an active part in educational programmes for junior medicalstaff, including formal teaching sessions and clinical auditsrelevant to the needs of the Unit.o To teach and train staff in other medical disciplines, nursing andsupport staff as appropriate.o Maintain an up-to-date job plan and personal development plano Register and participate in the appropriate CPD scheme with theRoyal College of Physicians.o Work with colleagues to provide a consultant-led service with thehighest standard of care.o Work with the multi-professional team to develop care pathwaysand clinical guidelines.

Essential

  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practice
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Entry on the Specialist Register via CCT (proposed CCT date must be within six months of interview), CESR
  • Evidence of specific training in acute medicine and/ or general medicine
  • MRCP

Desirable

  • Acute Medicine SCE Higher Degree
  • Undertaken Acute Internal Medicine training acceptable to the Royal College of physicians for appointment to Consultant Status
  • Membership of Appropriate Professional bodies.
  • Consultant level experience of Acute Medicine work
