Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Radiology team working as an Ultrasound Assistant.
You will be based at Airedale General Hospital. You will be required to support and assist the Sonographers and radiologists in the smooth running of the Ultrasound department.
This will involve greeting patients, changing them into gowns, assisting with the procedure including interventional procedures. You will be required to assist with personal care to patients if required, for example toileting. Undertaking necessary clerical work and liaising with wards, appointments and clinicians. Cleaning of rooms and equipment will be required as well as setting up rooms prior to the commencement of lists. Ensuring all rooms are stocked up for the smooth running of sessions
Your hours will be 19 hours per week, hours to be arranged this may include extended days until 8pm. Weekend shifts are available over and above the contracted hours.

Main duties of the job
- Receiving patients into the department at Airedale.
- Checking, booking and amending patient details onto the department IT system where required.
- Co-ordinating patient lists to ensure patients are kept to time.
- Be responsible for liaising with porters regarding ward patients using electronic system, and verbal communication skills and supporting the portering when required.
- Checking patient information including identification of patients, preparation for the examination and completion of WHO check lists
- Recording Weight/Height of patients where appropriate.
- Confirming examinations on IT system upon completion of theexamination.
- Using Hospital Administration System and Radiology.
- Information System in line with protocol and following training.
- Making appointments under guidance from Sonographers
- Clerical duties including the registration of patients, dealing with enquiries, obtaining previous X-ray and Ultrasound records, use of the departmental computer ( RIS system ) .In addition, the maintenance of a computerised appointments diary.
- To assist in the care of patients undergoing Ultrasound examinations which will include dealing with poorly and distressed patients, escorting patients and relatives, explaining procedures and assisting with dressing, undressing and toileting where necessary.
