Job summary
To provide senior support to the front line work on the Acute Assessment Unit (AAU) and the Ambulatory Care Unit (SDEC). This will also occasionally require in-reach to the Emergency Department when required. We expect the provision of excellent care, comprehensive assessment, and appropriate timely discharges and/or onward referrals.
When on duty to be available to junior staff to assist with the assessment of seriously ill patients.
Main duties of the job
To be a fully integrated and active member of the Multi-Disciplinary Team and attend daily MDT meetings on AAU when on duty.
The appointee will be encouraged to take an active part in our undergraduate and postgraduate teaching/training programme. We currently have 3rd, 4th and 5th Year medical students and PA students rotate through our AAU. The new appointee could be directly involved in this area if they wished.
The appointee will be encouraged and training will be made available if needed to provide supervision for our trainee doctors and advanced clinical practitioners.
The appointee is expected to take their equal share in providing emergency cover for colleagues during unexpected periods of absence.
The appointee will be expected to undertake administrative and management duties appropriate to the post and be actively involved in Clinical Governance activities for the department
Any other duties necessary for the successful performance of the role, commensurate with the grade.

The Acute Physician team provide cover for medical admissions on the new Acute Assessment Unit. The current team comprises 7 substantive consultants. Two of the consultants are dual trained in Acute Internal Medicine and Intensive Care. These additional posts are the next step in further expansion of our workforce. We pride ourselves on our commitment to and innovative approach to Acute Internal Medicine. We are actively involved in Society for Acute Medicine work and participate in a number of their projects such as SAMBA. We have active FAMUS faculty and are hosting our first FAMUS course in May 2023.

We are a national centre for telemedicine and introduced telehealth to the UK offender healthcare sector and also provide a similar service to patients in their care homes.
