Job summary

We offer training in quality improvement, leadership, sustainability and regional anaesthesia.We are currently advertising for a Specialist in Anaesthesia. This post is for 10 programmed activities. The post holder will be expected to participate in a 1:10 on-call rota. A breakdown of the draft job plan for the post is included in the information pack.

The post offers the opportunity to work in a small, ACSA accredited department in an award-winning hospital in an area of outstanding natural beauty within the heart of England in the rolling countryside near Skipton and Ilkley, close to the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Our award-winning hospital is positioned at the gateway to the beautiful Yorkshire Dales affording the opportunity to live and work in a stunning part of the country with good schools and easy access to the larger towns of Bradford, Harrogate and the City of Leeds. As a department we have a program of social events and many outdoor activities to appreciate the natural beauty of the surrounding outdoors.

Main duties of the job

The purpose of this post is to consolidate autonomous experience including out of hours work either standalone or in preparation for a CESR application. The successful applicant will be expected to work as part of a team of Consultants and will be required to contribute to the ongoing development of the Department of Anaesthesia at Airedale Hospital.Applicants must -

1. be on the Specialist Register, or within six months of being admitted to the Register for trainees if currently in a training programme within the UK. (If you are a trainee, currently on a UK training programme, and are not yet on the specialist register, please provide details of your expected CCT date on your application form) OR

2. be an associate specialist within the UK and able to demonstrate ability to work at consultant level via CV and interview OR

3. be a SAS doctor within the UK signed off by clinical or medical director to be working autonomously for all areas of clinical service provided at ANHST in accordance with the SAS charter and able to demonstrate ability to work at consultant level via CV and interview OR

4. be a practicing fully trained Consultant Anaesthetist outside of the UK but with previous substantial NHS experience and/or documented eligibility to apply for specialist registration via the CESR route

Qualifications

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • GMC Registration
  • FRCA or FFARCS or equivalent
  • Be on the GMC Specialist Register or be no more than six months from receiving CCT at interview date or SAS/AS signed off by CD to work at Consultant level or substantive Consultant with relevant experience for CESR application

Desirable

  • Higher academic qualifications
  • ATLS / ALS / APLS / PALS
  • Diploma in regional anaesthesia
  • FUSIC/FICE accreditation

Experience

Essential

  • Significant medical experience including 6 years experience in anaesthetics at specialty doctor/registrar level or equivalent
  • Intermediate/Advanced level ICM or Obstetrics
  • Thorough understanding of the NHS Constitution and its implications
