BASE: AIREDALE NHS FOUNDATION TRUST/SKIPTON GENERAL HOSPITAL

SALARY: £27,055 TO 33,706 PER ANNUM

HOURS: 37.5 HOURS PER WEEK

Following a recent uplift to the nursing establishment, an exciting opportunity has arisen for motivated nurses to work in a busy Haematology & Oncology Day Unit. We are looking for enthusiastic nurses who can work dynamically and at a fast pace to ensure safe and effective care delivery. The post will commence as a Band 5 registered Nurse; to then develop to a Band 6 over a twelve month period. During this time, the successful applicant would be required to be clinically competent, and have the theoretical knowledge and clinical skill for the role, in addition to the completion of the UKONS Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) passport. We have close links with Hope for Tomorrow who support by the loan of 2 Mobile Cancer Care Unit. Shifts would be allocated between the mobile units, and within HODU in the main hospital. The successful candidates will have a clear vision of quality care delivery and will be committed to helping to develop and improve the Haematology / Oncology service at Airedale General Hospital.

Main duties of the job

  • Demonstrate an ability to prioritise and organise clinical workload.

  • Liaise with senior colleagues to assess, plan, implement and evaluate individual plans of care for the acutely ill patient.
  • Prioritise and organise workload to ensure continuity of care and treatment throughout the shift.
  • Demonstrate professional accountability and work within own limitations.
  • Maintain accurate legal records of care.
  • Demonstrate a thorough and concise verbal handover which reflects the care and treatment given to the patient over the course of a shift.
  • Keep the senior nurse informed of untoward incidents and maintain accurate documentation in accordance with the Trust's policies.
  • To work on the Haematology Oncology Day Unit (HODU) & Mobile Cancer Care Units (MCCU) supporting patients, and their carers, who are receiving chemotherapy and supportive treatments for haematology/oncology conditions
  • The post is an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team which contributes to the effective and economic use of available resources.
  • Responsibilities include involvement in the day to day management and co-ordination of HODU.

The post holder will require extensive knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the vein.
  • Working in conjunction with the research nurses ensure patients enrolled in research trials adhere strictly to the trial protocols and collect and record the required data.
  • Partake in nurse led discharge as per defined criteria which will include compiling discharge letters under the supervision of the CNSs.
  • Liaise effectively with other members of the multi-disciplinary team, other health care professionals, primary care and voluntary agencies to ensure patients receive comprehensive integrated care.
  • To liaise with the Multi-disciplinary team regarding day unit patients.
  • To give support and advice to general wards and departments regarding chemotherapy regimens and assist with CVAD care and maintenance.
