Job summary

To work flexibly as part of the Chaplaincy team to ensure that all patients and staff receive effective pastoral, spiritual and religious care when needed across all clinical areas in the trust. In addition, to help staff have sensitivity to spiritual needs and extend their knowledge through the provision of support in clinical areas.

To ensure that those within the hospital requiring religious, pastoral and spiritual care receive appropriate attention and care, and to respond to all other forms of spiritual need either directly or via referral to other chaplains and services.

To provide flexible cover arrangements to ensure there is resilience in the chaplaincy service and continuity of support for staff and patients at times when demand for services exceeds existing capacity of the substantive team to deliver.

Main duties of the job

To work with the Chaplaincy team to ensure the timely and appropriate response to referrals and requests for pastoral and spiritual support.

To take part in the On Call rota as requested by the lead chaplain - making decisions on own initiative about spiritual needs in crisis situations; responding to emergency calls while meeting the required response time.

To record and manage data in accordance with Information Governance policies and procedures

To be prepared to take part in Major Incident Response in accordance with Departmental and Trust policies and procedures.

To be an additional flexible resource as part of caseload planning within the Chaplaincy team and the allocation of patients to volunteers.

To provide supervision to designated, students on placement and volunteers.

To work in accordance with the Airedale NHS Foundation Trust values, policies and procedures, fulfilling statutory and mandatory Trust training requirements and undertaking any necessary training that supports the work in agreement with the Head of Chaplaincy.

To undertake other duties as may be requested by the Head of Chaplaincy to facilitate the smooth running of the Department to ensure delivery of excellent service to the Trust.

To be the Duty Chaplain as and when required, ensuring timely follow-up of all referrals, including Electronic Patient Referrals and telephone referrals.
