Senior Clinical Fellow in Emergency Medicine - Minor Injuries
Airedale NHS Foundation Trust
This job is now closed
Job summary
At Airedale Emergency Department we pride ourselves in being a cohesive, friendly and supportive team delivering high quality care in a beautiful part of the country. We have a well staffed team at consultant, middle grade and junior level and have a great reputation amongst EM trainees including receiving the best feedback in the GMC trainee survey in West Yorkshire in 2021 (and second best in Yorkshire).
We recognise that many EM trainees feel that they do not get enough exposure to minor injuries and we have therefore created 2 new posts at Airedale to help identify this training need whilst also helping to support our need for high quality clinical decision makers. The 2 posts will include a mix of 50% of clinical shifts in our co-located minor injury unit and 50% in the main ED as part of our middle grade tier. Applicants should therefore be at the level of someone commencing their ST4 year or higher. In addition to minor injury experience, we can offer access to a sports clinic run by one of our ED Sports Medicine consultants. Postholder will also have 20% of their time for non-clinical work which can allow for attending other MSK-related clinics as well as exam preparation, QI work, teaching etc. There is also a generous study budget available.
Prospective candidates are encouraged to meet or make contact with members of the clinical and management teams. Appointments can be made for a visit at any point prior to the date of interview.
Main duties of the job
The post is based in the Emergency Department and Minor Injury Unit at Airedale General Hospital.
The post holder/s will be responsible to the ED consultants and will be expected to:
1. Be involved in the initial reception and management of patients attending the Department.
2. Be involved in the teaching of doctors, medical students and nursing staff.
3. Undertake some administrative responsibilities.
4. Assist the consultants and senior nurses in the running of the shop floor, ensuring patients are seen by appropriate staff in a timely fashion, that junior staff are appropriately supervised and receive adequate rest/meal breaks.
The post-holder undertakes exceptionally to perform additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances essential to the continuity of patient care.
