Job summary

Fellows will have CPD sessions when not covering night duties, some of which will be used to attend the monthly department governance and education half days. Doctors wishing to gain the primary FRCA may use this time to participate in our departmental examination teaching programme. For those aspiring to gain the final FRCA, we offer a programme of support for MCQ, SAQ and VIVA practice.

We are proud of our record in supporting doctors who are out of training to achieve their career goals including obtaining examinations and re-entry to specialist training. The department provides teaching and training support to gain the Primary and Final FRCA and has a strong history of supporting doctors to enhance their CVs through service improvement projects, audit, teaching and publications.

Main duties of the job

Join our ACSA accredited department and gain or enhance your skills in one of the following specialist areas:

  • Regional Anaesthesia
  • Perioperative Medicine
  • Human Factors and Simulation
  • Quality Improvement

These posts are aimed at doctors with at least 2 years anaesthetic experience who are taking a year out from training, particularly those who wish to gain the Primary FRCA, or need acquire more clinical and non-clinical experience before applying for ST4 posts. Doctors with less experience will be considered provided they have obtained initial competencies in Anaesthesia and Critical Care. The post would also be suitable for doctors with more experience, who are out of training, who wish to gain the final FRCA and re-enter training. The responsibilities of the post will reflect the previous experience of the post-holder.
