Speech and Language Therapist

Job summary

The Specialist Speech and Language Therapist will be based within the Cumberland footprint and will work integrated in the 0-19 service including Health Visitors and Child Development Practitioners. The post holder will support the service offer to families, and the promotion health, wellbeing and development of children. The post holder will develop training, interventions and pathways in order to promote evidence-based assessments and interventions which considers The Home Learning Environment to narrow the 'word gap' and promote school readiness.

Main duties of the job

Work within occupational standards, policies and procedures

Adhere and refer to Trust and Local Children's Safeguarding Partnerships Policies/procedures

All registrants will be required to assess and supervise pre and post registration students during their training

Participate in HDFT preceptorship support programme for identified staff

Ensure efficient use of resources

Demonstrate up-to-date research-based, clinically effective practice, ensuring awareness of current legislation, education and audit

To be responsible for maintaining competence to practice through continuing professional development activities, including portfolio development, attending internal and external training courses and undertaking reflective practice

Maintain contemporaneous and accurate records as required by HDFT and in line with professional standards

Participate in individual performance and development review in accordance with HDFT Quality and Performance strategy. Participate with annual appraisal with line manager and contribute to own personal development

Establish effective and efficient communication with all statutory, partner and voluntary agencies ensuring the family is at the centre

Establish and maintain positive interpersonal relationships with other team members. Positive relationships are characterised by open communication, trust and respect.

  • Relevant experience at postgraduate level of working in schools, pre-school settings and local authority Children Centre's
  • Relevant experience of working with children with a range of SLCN

Desirable

  • Experience of designing and delivering training around SLCN to parents and professionals
  • Experience of teaching or coaching
  • Experience of working collaboratively with key delivery partners.

Knowledge
