Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for enthusiastic and self-motivated radiographer to join our dynamic Ultrasound team as a trainee.

This is a training post within the Ultrasound Department, specifically training in obstetrics, gynaecology and general medical ultrasound. The training is full-time (37.5 hours each week) and is both academic and practical. There is a need to attend a higher education institute and a need to complete assessments throughout the training. Successful completion of the training will result in a formal qualification in Medical Ultrasound (PGDip).

The successful applicant will be required to complete a supervised preceptorship period before independent work is undertaken. There is an expectation to remain at HDFT as a qualified Sonographer for 1 year post initial qualification immediately following training.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for training and supporting the department in the following ways:

  • To ensure images and examination details are stored appropriately.
  • To use ultrasound equipment safely and effectively.
  • Adhere to ultrasound guidance and protocols.
  • Participate in audits and review activities to ensure continued high department and practice standards.
  • Responsible for managing own workload, specifically training and academic workload.
  • Work within trainee scope of practice, remaining within expected levels of competencies and seeking advice / guidance / assistance when required.
  • Undertaking ultrasound examinations and providing high quality reports on scans appropriate to training and the level of training undertaken.
  • Carrying out support duties to support the management and function of the department within a student Sonographer role, including but not limited to joining team meetings, chaperoning and helping patients.
  • Progressing patient care and workflow of the ultrasound team, following relevant scan findings and to act upon these accordingly
  • To attend the relevant training events, programmes and examinations when required for successful completion of the training course.
  • To ensure a high level of communication with both patients and colleagues in order to ensure successful completion of the training course and to achieve a good examination standard.
