This is an exciting opportunity to become a qualified Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) over a three year period via the local apprenticeship route from one of the top Trusts in the country. The course is fully funded by Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust.
The post holder will be employed by Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust (HDFT) Academic Study will make up 20% of the role and this will be delivered through formal education both in house and via Teesside University. The post holder will undertake a period of three years training, under the supervision of a registered practitioner to prepare for progression to an ODP which includes undertaking and successfully completing work based competencies and a level 6 Apprenticeship. In each year the apprentice will be expected to successfully complete all academic modules, assessments and work based competencies to progress to the following years.
By completing this Level 6 apprenticeship, you will gain a BSc (Hons) in Operating Department Practice, which has been approved by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), and you will be eligible to apply to the HCPC for registration.
Main duties of the job
Operating Department Practitioners work alongside other professionals (such as doctors and nurses) and take a lead role in ensuring a patient is safe during their journey through the operating theatre.
You will cover the skills, knowledge and behaviours required to look after patients during the three phases of the operating theatre journey: anaesthesia, surgery and post-anaesthesia. You will receive training and development in five broad areas:
