Job summary

Implement, manage and support the organisation's data network and computer systems, ensuring standards of performance and security are maintained.

This includes: successfully resolving IT support calls in a timely and efficient manner; performing installations, configurations, relocations and decommissioning of computer hardware and software; fault-finding and rectifying problems; escalating issues as appropriate; promoting good practice in the use of hardware and software and IT security; diagnosing complex integrated service issues; providing specialist knowledge and guidance on technical aspects of systems/services; acting as a local expert / reference point.

Main duties of the job

Implement, manage and support the organisation's computer systems and data network

To ensure standards of performance and security are maintained.

Support the delivery of health care, and for the service to become associated with efficiency and reliability.

Provide advice and guidance to peer members of the network and server team.

Provide data services for all computer systems in the organisation

Implement strategies to enhance network services

Investigate ways to reduce costs and environmental impact

Support the design and project management of any changes to the organisations data storage / network infrastructure

Ensure the monitoring and enforcement of the security of the organisation IT systems and infrastructure

Provide a robust second and third line support for the IT service desk

Ensure that all hardware and software being installed meets agreed standards, is fully compatible with the established base, and allows a successful transition from the previous platform or process.

Raise the profile of the IT service, in particular to establish a reputation for providing an effective, timely and responsive service.

Identify how each reported problem should be resolved, allocate resources if necessary and to ensure that all work is undertaken to the standard expected.

The post holder will be required to participate in the departmental on call rota.

  • Detailed understanding of LAN and WAN technologies and Protocols, in particular TCP/IP and Cisco Networking
  • Excellent knowledge of PC, tablet and Server products - hardware and software
  • Ability to work under extreme pressure and produce high quality work to tight deadlines
  • Experience of working with clinical and corporate systems

Desirable

  • IT projects experience and involvement
  • Displays enthusiasm for self-development.
