Job summary

Harrogate & District NHS Foundation Trust (HDFT) are looking for an experienced and motivated strategic leader to become our new Head of Safeguarding to provide visible leadership & oversight of our safeguarding services.

The postholder will work closely with our Deputy Director of Nursing CYP/Safeguarding, Named Safeguarding Professionals & Directorate teams to deliver our statutory safeguarding requirements and represent HDFT across the Integrated Care System.

This role is pivotal to strengthening safeguarding governance and partnership working to achieve our ambition of delivering excellent safeguarding services. We are looking for a registered professional with significant experience in complex safeguarding, line management, partnership working and developing training programmes.

The role is based at Harrogate District Hospital with travel across the geographical footprint of the Trust as required.

Main duties of the job

HDFT delivers hospital and community services to Harrogate and District, and wider North Yorkshire community services. Our reputation for quality and innovation has enabled us to become the largest provider of Children's Public Health Services (often known as 0-19 or 0-25 Services) in England - we support over 600,000 Children and Young People through our nine services stretching from Berwick upon Tweed in the North, to Wakefield in the South, and across the whole of North Yorkshire, from Settle in the West to Scarborough in the East.

Duties include

  • Provide expert safeguarding advice & supervision on all safeguarding related matters, with an excellent up-to-date knowledge of national safeguarding related legislation & practice.
  • Represent HDFT & collaborate with all aspects of North Yorkshire Safeguarding Adults Board & Children's Partnership activity & their associated delivery groups.
  • Lead the development, provision & evaluation of safeguarding training & supervision programmes, inclusive for safeguarding adults & children across the organisation for all Trust employees.
  • Lead & oversee successful delivery of our Safeguarding annual objectives.
  • Produce & present high-quality Trust Board level quality assurance reports inclusive of action plans, risk management & audit data.
  • Oversee PREVENT & Mental Capacity Act related work within the Trust.
