Job summary

The role will include working as an autonomous Advanced Ophthalmology Practitioner (AOP) undertaking holistic assessment, examination and diagnosis in order to implement management and treatment plans for Ophthalmic patients. They will undertake up to 2 days of clinical work per week.

The post holder will work with the Clinical Lead, Service Manager, and Optical Services Manager within the Ophthalmology Service to support the delivery of all services and patient care for the specialty.

They will be responsible for leading, managing and developing a multidisciplinary team within the Ophthalmology Department. They will contribute to the strategic, clinical and operational management of the service in collaboration with other members of the team to ensure that Trust and Department objectives are met.

The post holder will work with the Clinical Lead, Service Manager, and Optical Services Manager to ensure there are effective and efficient structures in place to deliver high quality patient care whilst maintaining key financial, operational and governance targets.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will lead the clinical function of the services ensuring the development and maintenance of high standards of clinical care and patient experience.

They will work autonomously in delivering independent assessment, clinical examination, diagnosis, clinical decision making and planning of care and treatment, diagnosis, health promotion and safe discharge of patients.

They will act as a mentor/instigator of change in supporting junior colleagues, while developing and performance managing all relevant clinical staff to enable delivery of the Trust's Clinical Strategy. They will be responsible for improving patient experience.

The post holder will support accurate service planning and performance monitoring and work with stakeholders to exploit opportunities for service improvement / redesign.
