Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join our progressive Pharmacy team as a Lead Technician working across the pharmacy and the wider Trust to help improved Medicines Safety for our patients and staff.

We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated pharmacy technician with the enthusiasm and vision to help lead quality improvement in the area of Medicines Safety within Pharmacy and across the Trust.

This role is integral to delivering our vision for reducing harm from Medication Incidents and, as such, we are looking for an applicant who has experience of project and change management.

The successful candidate will play a vital role in delivering the Trusts Quality and Safety agenda to improve medication safety, establish a good reporting culture and drive learning from incidents and quality improvement across the Trust.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the core pharmacy service including clinical pharmacy commitment, weekend and bank holiday pharmacy service.

Main duties of the job

  • To support the Lead Pharmacist for Medicines Quality and Safety to provide leadership and management in this service area.
  • To identify and lead on learning from medication incidents in Pharmacy and Trust wide
  • To lead, develop and maintain a working environment that encourages teamwork, mutual support and excellence in service delivery and reduces risks to a minimum.
  • To develop and implement a strategy for improving the knowledge and skills required for the technical workforce to promote and aid in Medicines Quality and Safety.
  • To line manage staff and ensure all staff receive individual performance reviews (appraisals) and to support identified objectives and training requirements.
  • To provide leadership into the recruitment and selection of new staff.
  • To respond appropriately to urgent / complicated requests from ward and clinic areas
  • To contribute to departmental forward planning.
  • To maintain high professional standards at all times and ensure compliance with statutory regulations concerning pharmaceuticals and the provisions of the Health and Safety at work Act.
  • To ensure compliance with statutory regulations concerning medicines and Health and Safety Standards.
  • To attend any relevant training required to maintain quality work and develop the role
  • To deputise for the Lead Pharmacist where appropriate

  • GPhC registration
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Up to date CPD portfolio in line with GPhC requirements
  • BTEC in pharmaceutical science and / or NVQ level 3 in pharmacy services or equivalent
  • A minimum of 2 years post-qualification experience as a Pharmacy Technician
  • Accuracy Checking qualification
  • Experience in pharmacy in a hospital setting.
  • Management qualification or experience of staff and service management
  • Medication history taking NVQ Level 4 qualification

  • Experience in developing and delivering quality improvement projects
