Job summary

To deputise for the principal radiographer for the day to day running and delivery of the Nuclear Medicine Service including the SPECT CT scanner and the Radiopharmacy.

To perform and supervise a wide range of imaging procedures including highly complex examinations such a myocardial perfusion scans, to a high clinical standard, prioritising patients to ensure optimum efficiency and service quality.

To work closely with the principal radiographer, other radiographers, medical, physicist and nursing staff to ensure provision of an efficient and responsive Nuclear Medicine Service.

To operate a variety of information technology systems to a high level, including Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) and CRIS. And ensure that all data inputs are accurately recorded in order to maintain the integrity of the data for both patients and the service.

To supervise, support and assist colleagues and students, the multi-disciplinary team and other staff in service delivery and personal development to improve individual practice and that of the service.

To work closely with the principal radiographer in the development of the Nuclear Medicine SPECT CT service and the Radiopharmacy service.

Main duties of the job

Clinical responsibilities.

  • Ensure that all referrals are evaluated and prioritised according to protocol and clinical information.
  • Ensure that the protocol used for an examination is suitably matched to the clinical indications for the procedure.
  • Ensure patients, relatives and staff are appropriately informed and reassured of any discussions relating to patients' procedures.

Operation Responsibilities.

  • Act as a practitioner/operator under the IR(ME)R 2017 regulations under the direction of the ARSAC holder.
  • Operate accurately and safely highly complex equipment, requiring a high degree of manual dexterity.
  • Operate advanced software requiring excellent hand eye coordination as drawing and positioning of region of interest, SPECT reconstructions, CT 3D reconstructions and cardiac ejection fractions that will directly determine the patient's clinical report

Service improvement

  • Assist the Principal Radiographer in evaluating, and development of the service.
  • Assist the Principal Radiographer in implementing new policies within the department.

Training and Governance Responsibilities

  • Take full advantage of any training opportunities which may present, and make known training needs to the Principal Radiographer.
  • Access competence of more junior staff.
