Job summary
Harrogate and District Foundation Trust are seeking an enthusiastic Diabetes and endocrinology consultant to join the existing team of 4 consultants to provide specialist outpatient and inpatient services to the local population. This is a full time - 10 PA job based in Harrogate hospital to provide diabetes and endocrinology care for local population. We hope you will develop a sub-specialty interest in either endocrinology or diabetes while contributing to the needs of the population in the area. We also encourage our colleagues to develop additional interests around training, management, research and use of technology in healthcare.
We are a forward looking team and are at the forefront of using technology for diabetes care. We have been pioneers in insulin pump therapy in the UK and have participated in several insulin pump trials, including the recently concluded trial of hybrid closed loop pump therapy.
We offer specialty clinics in lipid metabolism, insulin pump use, antenatal care, diabetes foot disease, transition service and renal disease, apart from clinics in general diabetes and endocrinology. There is DCC admin time built into every clinic template as well as separate allocated time for DDC admin.
Main duties of the job
This job will be based in Harrogate hospital and include supporting general medical inpatients on the base ward. We anticipate inpatient care will be annualised equivalent of 4 months in a year. Diabetes nursing teams provide in-reach service within the hospital. You will provide them support and also be responsible for referral reviews from other specialties. You will provide pre-arranged, colleague cross cover for annual and study leave.
You will participate in a weekend general medical on call rota - currently 1 in 7 expected to be 1 in 8. Weekends are supported by various specialist nursing teams, outreach service from intensive care with plans to extend SDEC (same day emergency care) to cover weekends. There is no day time on- call, acute medical commitment for the working week. Weekday overnight availability rota currently at 1 in 28.
The team, based in the diabetes centre, is supported by dedicated secretarial staff, diabetes specialist nurses, 2 ST, 1 IMT, 1FY2 and 1 FY1 trainees. There are also trust grade clinical fellows and GP trainees supporting the base wards.
We support undergraduate medical students from Leeds University and there is scope to take on leadership roles in training. Consultants contribute to trust wide grand rounds and CPD programme.
