Job summary

The Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a part time Histopathology consultant, to fill a current vacant post.

The department is vital part of this busy district general hospital and the appointee would be expected to report as a generalist across the full range of specialties as well as non-gynaecology cytology. Applicants willing to under-take post-mortems are particularly welcomed.

This is an exciting time to join a friendly forward thinking team, in a fully UKAS accredited department, part of a collaborative Joint Venture across Bradford and Airedale. This post is based on the Harrogate District Hospital site. Digital histopathology has been deployed, and reporting validation is underway. We offer flexible working arrangements,

The hospital is sited in a lovely historic spa town in North Yorkshire.

This is a part-time position, 6.0 PAs, anticipated 4.5 DCC and 1.5 SPA.

Main duties of the job

  • Provision of a rapid, reliable and comprehensive diagnostic service in histopathology, diagnostic cytopathology and morbid anatomy to the Trust and district in co-operation with the other consultant histopathologists.
  • To join in the close working relationships with the other pathology consultants and the Pathology Quality Manager.
  • To act as Professional Lead of Histopathology by rotation.
  • Provision of advice and support to clinical colleagues in respect of pathological diagnosis.
  • Participation in multi-disciplinary meetings.
  • To liaise with clinical and technical staff and to be available for consultation on the interpretation of diagnostic findings.
  • To respond to requests for advice and assistance out-of-hours. No formal on-call rota exists.
  • To participate in quality management, including UKAS, appropriate EQA schemes and audit.
  • To share in teaching and training of medical and BMS trainees, undergraduate students and trainees in other disciplines.
  • To participate in appropriate research projects.
  • To participate in the work of national screening programmes and to comply with their requirements for audit and assessment.
  • To comply with all elements of the developing professional regulatory framework, including consultant appraisal, clinical governance, revalidation and the CPD Scheme of the Royal College of Pathologists.
  • To comply with the current requirements of Human Tissue Act, Cremation regulations, Coroner's Rules, RCPath Guidelines and NHS consent procedures
