Bolton is an acute cardiology and respiratory medical ward with a high turnover of patients. We have a five bedded Coronary Care Unit, and care for patients requiring Non Invasive Ventilation (NIV).We have up to 34 beds in our busiest months. We also take a number of other patients from other medical specialities for cardiac monitoring, such as electrolyte imbalances.

The ward is led by Sister Rachael Dealhoy, a team of dedicated Band 6 Sisters, and a supportive Matron. All new RNs are given a minimum of 4 week super nummary time, and will be assignment a mentor to guide them through this time. You will be offered the opportunity to undertake key clinical skills training including cannulation, phlebotomy, ECG recording and NIV training. We run our own in house CCU training competency.

Main duties of the job

Once settled on the ward there are opportunities to attend the trust leadership programme and band 6 development posts.

Newly qualified nurses will be join our Preceptorship programme with dedicated study time away from the ward.

We recognise staff achievements through regular appraisals, making a difference and team of the Month awards.

We support and guide staff with revalidation.

We also have lots of social events throughout the year, as we feel it is important to celebrate each other's successes and take time away from the ward to decompress.
