Job summary
To work closely with the Named Nurses and other professionals within the Safeguarding Children Team supporting activities to ensure the Trust meets its responsibilities in respect of safeguarding children in accordance with the Children Act 1989 and 2004 and Working Together to Safeguard Children (2018).
To provide advice and support to health professionals relating to the safeguarding of children and young people across the Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust, (HDFT), footprint, working with partner agencies to ensure robust and timely communication and effective practice to safeguard children.
To plan, facilitate and evaluate a training programme that is consistent with the Intercollegiate Document. Safeguarding Children and Young People, Roles and Competencies for Health Care Staff (2019) and the HDFT Child Protection Training Strategy. This involves the development and delivery of training courses across HDFT, in Provider Organisations with whom there is a Service Level Agreement (SLA) and as part of the multi-agency Local Safeguarding Children Board.
To provide Reflective Child Protection Supervision for employees of HDFT (and employees of organisations with whom there is a SLA) as set out within the HDFT Child Protection Supervision Policy.
To support practitioners when preparing Court Reports for child care proceedings.
To support the Named Nurses to collect information if there is a Serious or other types of Case Review.
Main duties of the job
The role of the Safeguarding Children Team is to provide a safe Safeguarding Children Service for all HDFT employees and employees of organisations with whom there is a Service Level Agreement. These services include:
- Advice and support of practitioners who have concern about the welfare of a child, from initial concern through the Child Protection process to legal proceedings.
- Provision of training in line with the Intercollegiate Document: Safeguarding Children: Roles and Competencies of Health Professionals (2019).
- Provision of reflective supervision.
- Support and promotion of effective inter and multi-agency working.
Support of good organisational governance processes to provide assurance of a safe service including development of appropriate polices and procedures
