Job summary
The main purpose of this role is to:
a) Provide a leadership and line management role to the Macmillan GI Specialist Nursing team. Leading on developing the nursing service.
b) Provide specialist nursing support to patients with GI cancer, supporting them through a range of therapies through recovery / rehabilitation or palliative care.
c) Be a practising health care professional with a current registration. During the course of their work they will interact with patients over the delivery and provision of their care which will involve judgements over a range of complex clinical issues.
Main duties of the job
The Macmillan GI Nursing Service provides a range of diagnostic, treatment, supportive and follow up care to a range of conditions.
The GI Nursing team supports predominantly patients with the following conditions
- Colorectal Cancer
- Upper GI Cancer including oesophageal, gastric, pancreatic, gallbladder and liver.
All of the nursing workload relates to supporting patients with Colorectal and Upper GI Cancers.
The service ensure all patients receive the highest standard of personalised care and support from the point of diagnosis, throughout treatment with the delivery of patient education programmes to support patients to live with and beyond cancer.
