Job summary

Following service redesign, this post gives an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic part time Occupational Therapist to join the surgical and respiratory team at Harrogate District Hospital.

This is a great development opportunity for both experienced band 5 staff or an existing band 6 to support the development of this area of work including an emerging in-reach role within critical care

This is an excellent and motivating opportunity for the right candidate to become involved in the ongoing development of a proactive and forward-thinking team. You will be a member of a multi-disciplinary team and be offered opportunities to develop and enhance your existing clinical skills.

Occupational therapy will be provided as a deliverable intervention which aims to support individuals through their personal and meaningful recovery to return to ordinary lives and daily occupations. An essential commitment to the assessment of occupational needs with the therapeutic use of occupation-based intervention is core to this role. In addition, the post requires collaborative working and focusing on the provision of high-quality evidence-based services to individuals.

Applicants should be flexible, highly motivated with the ability to adapt to the changing demands of this developing service.

Main duties of the job

  • To carry a variable clinical caseload of patients providing occupational therapy assessments addressing occupational therapy performance, skills deficits, self-maintenance and cognitive function.
  • To provide rehabilitation and advice to patients in the hospital setting to enable them to achieve their optimum level of independence and quality of life
  • To work with clients, carers, relatives and colleagues to identify, plan, develop and implement OT patient goals as part of an overall care plan.
  • To plan and implement individual interventions, in collaboration with the client, using graded activity to achieve therapeutic goals.
  • To work independently under the guidance of the senior staff within the team and actively participate in the professional development of self and others.
  • To seek and get support from the Occupational Therapy Professional Lead
  • To take a responsible place in the multi-disciplinary team promoting the role of Occupational Therapy and taking an active part in team projects.
  • To in-reach to critical care to support the early rehabilitation of patients in ICU.
