Job summary

The Post Holder will work as a valuable member of the Cancer Management Team, and be responsible for the delivery of quality improvements in the provision of Cancer Services. The post holder will have a particular focus on achieving the national Cancer Waiting Times (CWT) standards and will work autonomously to oversee the delivery of a portfolio of transformation projects. They will provide support to the General Manager/Lead Cancer Manager, by facilitating operational improvements in cancer pathways, and contributing to the day to day optimisation of service delivery. The Post Holder will work collaboratively with key stakeholders across the trust, and within the West Yorkshire & Harrogate Cancer Alliance (WY&H CA). They will contribute to the 'West Yorkshire & Harrogate Improvement Collaborative Network' by taking the lead for specific system wide improvement projects, ensuring consistency of approach and fostering shared learning.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the Service Improvement Lead for Cancer Services are to:

  • To deliver locally determined quality improvement activities within the scope and direction of the WY&H Cancer Improvement Collaborative
  • Use improvement methodology to improve organisation and flow of cancer pathways, implement pathway action plans to deliver optimal care and experience for patient
  • To ensure patient engagement and co-production should be central to improvement activities
  • To monitor improvements through our key metrics for system-wide success for this initiative (the 62-day CWT standard, 28 day Faster Diagnosis Standard together with sentinel questions from the Cancer Patient Experience Survey)
  • To work across a 'WY&H Improvement Collaborative network' in a consistent and transparent way
  • To lead specific system wide improvement projects ensuring consistency of approach and foster shared learning and collaboration across organisations
  • To support the General Manager/Lead Cancer Manager in the operational delivery of cancer services including Haematology, Medical Oncology and Palliative Care
