An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the corporate nursing team at Harrogate and District NHS Foundation.
As Deputy Director of Nursing you will be providing support to the Executive Director of Nursing, Midwifery and AHPs at a strategic and operational level.
You will provide credible, effective and visible professional nursing, midwifery and AHP clinical leadership at the Trust and will make a corporate contribution in achieving the implementation of the Trusts vision and key priorities.
You will demonstrate your planned and ambitious approach to inspire our workforce, providing care improvements that motivate and involve nurses, midwives and AHPs, facilitating their delivery of outstanding care to our community and to our staff.
We are looking for an authentic and tenacious senior clinical leader, with the enthusiasm and drive to support delivery of the ambitious Trust priorities and transformation programmes within the Executive Director of Nursing, Midwifery and AHP's Office.
Main duties of the job
The Corporate Nursing Team supports the Trust in the delivery of the Nursing, Midwifery and AHP Workplan. The team leadership team works alongside Matrons, Heads of Nursing, midwifery and AHP, Directorate Leadership Teams, the Medical Director and Chief Operating Officer to ensure the safe and effective delivery of services. The role includes working in partnership with the Commissioners, NHS England, NHS Improvement, NMC, HCPC CQC, the LADO, Healthwatch and other external agencies.

- Deputise for the Executive Director of Nursing Midwifery and AHPs as required, ensuring a visible presence across the Trust, and being recognised as high performing nurse leader.
- The Deputy Director of Nursing, Midwifery and AHPs is the formal designated deputy acting for the Executive Director attending all Trust Committees, including the Board of Directors in her/his absence
- On behalf of the Executive Director of Nursing, Midwifery and AHPs represent the Trust on local, regional, and national nursing related bodies
- To take the lead for infection prevention and control in conjunction with the lead IPC Doctor and team and report to the DIPC any areas of concern or note
- Lead on, and monitor, safer staffing and ensure that workforce plans and recruitment schedules are robustly managed.
- Lead on the benefits realisation of e-rostering for nursing & midwifery staff to enable optimisation of resources robust adherence to the rostering policy and the achievement of required levels of staff.
- Ensure that effective nursing, midwifery and AHP care is delivered by appropriately trained and competent nurses, midwives, non-registered support staff and the accreditation of Healthcare Assistants is achieved to national standards.
- Maintain understanding of developments and changes in legislation, national policy and guidance and ensure that senior Trust personnel are kept up to date and informed of the likely impact to Trust services.
- Ensure the visibility of the lead nurses with corporate responsibility for nursing, midwifery and AHP services to enable the provision of quality care.

- In conjunction with the Heads of Nursing and Associate Director of Midwifery, ensure an effective NMC revalidation process and support the implementation of the professional advocate role across the Trust.
- In conjunction with the Heads of Nursing and Associate Director of Midwifery, lead strategic nursing workforce planning, recruitment, and retention. Develop improvement initiatives as required and work in partnership with the Human Resources department on recruitment campaigns.
- In conjunction with the Heads of Nursing and Associate Director of Midwifery, ensure that managed services and departments know their responsibilities and that service provision is effective, regularly evaluate performance and plan and implement change as necessary.

Professional Leadership
- To provide effective professional leadership for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting across the organisation at all levels. To take the Trust lead in the absence of the Executive Director of Nursing, Midwifery and AHPs.
