Job summary

To positively and effectively lead and manage all aspects of development and the day to day running of the Volunteer Service at Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust.

This will be achieved through:

  • The development and implementation of a clear dynamic Volunteer Strategy
  • The development, review, and implementation of policies and processes to effectively recruit, train, retain, and support / supervision of volunteers, measuring and reporting impact
  • Effective partnership working with key stake holders internally and externally.
  • Developing and maintaining a positive working partnership with Harrogate Hospital & Community Charity
  • Effectively manage the Volunteer Service budget

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the role include:

  • Lead development of and plan a comprehensive volunteering strategy for the Trust and build the positive impact of volunteering for our staff and patients
  • Lead the development and growth of the service, in line with the volunteer strategy ensuring an inclusive approach is taken across the Trust
  • Ensure risk assessment and safe systems of work are in place for volunteer roles
  • Work in partnership with staff at all levels, and across the organisation, to identify areas of need, and develop appropriate volunteer role profiles
  • Develop volunteer recruitment and management processes and policies, to meet the needs of the Trust for volunteers, and ensure recruitment and development of suitably qualified/skilled volunteers
  • Contribute to forward planning by keeping up to date with national and local developments, subsequently making recommendations to the Business Development, Charity and Volunteer and the Head of Charity and Business Development Project Manager regarding future developments of volunteer services
  • Build strong links with the community, including with local public, private, voluntary and non-voluntary organisations and statutory bodies
  • Facilitate and enable volunteers from voluntary sector organisations to support and provide services across the Trust
  • Work closely with the Harrogate Hospital & Community Charity to maximise opportunities for mutual benefit e.g. through charity supporters also volunteering for the Trust
