Research Practitioner

The closing date is 01 December 2025

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, motivated, and flexible Research Practitioner to join our dynamic team at Scarborough Hospital, on a 12 month fixed-term contract. You'll play a pivotal role in supporting the delivery of a diverse portfolio of clinical trials across the Trust, making a real impact on patient care and the future of healthcare.Reporting to the Trust Lead Research Nurse or Senior Research Nurse, you'll provide comprehensive administrative and clinical support, working hands-on on several portfolio studies.

This role offers the chance to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, develop your skills in clinical research, and gain valuable experience in a fast-paced, innovative environment.

Flexibility is key--you'll support colleagues across different research specialties and sites, including GP surgeries if required. A good understanding of clinical research and the legislation governing clinical trials is essential, as is a commitment to our Trust values: Kindness, Openness, and Excellence.

For the right candidate, this is a fantastic development opportunity--ideal for a current Clinical Trials Assistant, someone with similar experience, or anyone seeking an opportunity to work within research. You'll enjoy varied duties, professional growth, and the satisfaction of contributing to ground-breaking research.

Main duties of the job

Step into a role where every day brings new opportunities to make a difference in clinical research. You'll be at the centre of trial activity--maintaining essential study files and documentation, arranging appointments with patients, securing vital test results and medical records, and ensuring trial data is collated, submitted, and reported with precision. Your attention to detail will help drive the success of studies that shape the future of healthcare.

You'll also work hands-on alongside our Research Nurses and AHP's, providing vital clinical support. This includes screening potential participants, receiving consent, and actively recruiting individuals into studies--always matched to your skills and competence. Your contribution will be key to delivering a seamless and supportive experience for every research participant.

At least two years' experience in clinical research would be advantageous, and excellent communication skills are essential. You'll support and reassure patients--some of whom may be seriously ill or distressed--with sensitivity and professionalism. You'll also collaborate with staff at all levels across hospital departments, as well as sponsors, Research Network colleagues, and other NHS Trusts, building strong relationships that help research thrive.
