Advanced Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist- Pain

Job summary

The successful candidate will take the role of lead specialist physiotherapist in pain management. They will lead on advancing practice in this field and embed best clinical practice within the team. They will lead on service, policy and research development within the pain management service across relevant trust sites. They will lead on development of other team members and disciplines as well as carrying the responsibility of maintaining appropriate data and service management records. They will also have the responsibility of plan and organise the service efficiently and effectively.

They will carry a responsibility for their caseload, providing highly specialist assessment and treatment with a variety of complex patients. They will be responsible for determining clinical diagnosis and recognise the need for intervention where appropriate. They will be responsible for promoting the use of biopsychosocial modalities of pain management both within the team and across wider MDT.

Main duties of the job

Undertake the comprehensive assessment of patients; including those with a complex presentation; using investigative and analytical skills to formulate an appropriate treatment plan.

Formulate individualised management and treatment plans, using clinical reasoning, experience, Evidence Based Practice and utilising a wide range of interventions and options to formulate a highly specialised programme of care.

Be able to analyse and interpret clinical and /or social information from a range of sources, make reasoned recommendations for other professional intervention if required and to integrate this information into patient management.

Analyse and interpret staff related information and will be required to facilitate appropriate problem-solving strategies. Analyse business related information in order to inform service development and priorities

To deliver manual physiotherapy techniques within the patients' management plan and to be able to use specialist equipment where there may be narrow margins of error.

  • oFive years post graduate experience, including work at a minimum level of Band 6 within relevant clinical setting (Pain Management Service).
  • oSignificant Band 6 experience in musculoskeletal (MSK) assessment, including spinal pathology and complex case management.
  • oSpecialist experience managing complex pain conditions, utilising biopsychosocial assessment.
  • oExpert understanding of psychological concepts including the bio-psycho-social model and different types of available therapies (CBT, ACT, CFT).
  • oCounselling / health coaching experience, and the ability to identify and overcome psychosocial barriers
  • oEvidence of service development and service leadership experience.
