Job summary
The Blood Sciences Department at Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is looking for an Associate Practitioner to work in our busy Pathology Department. The laboratories at Hull are part of the newly formed Scarborough, Hull and York Pathology Service (SHYPS) who provide healthcare science services across this wide network.
Based in Hull you will work in the Blood Sciences. Your role will involve carrying out analytical tests and performing maintenance on analytical equipment under the supervision of a Biomedical Scientist. We are looking for individuals who are hardworking, innovative, sociable, and works well as part of a team.
This is a permanent position and would be suitable for individuals wishing to gain laboratory experience or wanting to take their first steps into a career in healthcare.
Main duties of the job
- To carry out the analysis of patient samples and the maintenance of Analytical equipment in the provision of a Clinical Laboratory Service according to departmental standard operating procedures and the departmental quality assurance policy.
- To use and maintain highly specialist scientific instruments for the diagnosis and monitoring of disease both within the laboratory
- To maintain adequate stocks of reagents and consumables and ensuring these are stored in an appropriate environment to maintain integrity.
- To plan and prioritise your individual workload
- Selection and preparation of samples ready for examination
- Data input of patient details and results into the Laboratory Information system
- Communicate effectively with clinicians, nurses and other service users.
