Specialist Doctor in Ophthalmology

Job summary

York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals offers an appointment for a full time Ophthalmology Specialist. This is a substantive post; the Candidate will be a senior non-consultant member of the Ophthalmology Service.

The post holder will be expected to manage Ophthalmology and emergency patients and will be expected to deliver appropriate subspecialty care potentially to include, corneal, glaucoma or medical retina.

Main duties of the job

  • Urgent Care Clinics
  • Subspecialty clinics: The Candidate will support the Corneal, glaucoma and medical retina team and other subspecialties dependent on service demand and skillset
  • Independent Laser clinics where appropriate
  • Potential for surgery is optional dependent on skill set and theatre availability

The post holder will be expected to supervise trainees and other junior staff and be part of teaching and training of medical and non- medical staff.

The appointee must be experienced in leading clinical audits.

The post holder will be expected to primarily work at Scarborough Hospital but also other east coast hospital sites including Malton and Bridlington where needed.
