Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with strong communication skills and an interest in Speech and Language Therapy, to join our teamworking within the Surgical Speech & Language Therapy Team based at York hospital.
The service is involved in caring for people with:
- ENT/ Voice disorders
- Head & Neck Cancer
- Dysphagia
Input is offered across outpatient clinics, groups, Multi Disciplinary Team (MDT) clinic and inpatients (including critical care).
Working alongside the qualified therapists the successful candidate will work directly with patients and their families, to undertake a variety ofrehabilitation activities in order to optimise their independence and function.

Main duties of the job
You will carry out clinical duties delegated by qualified Speech & Language Therapists. This will include:
- implementation of treatment programmes and activities
- administration/ordering of appropriate equipment and aids
- running groups alongside a qualified Speech & Language Therapist
- reviewing patients on the wards, following dysphagia management plans
- undertaking administrative duties
Access to advice and support from qualified staff is routinely provided and clinical work is routinely evaluated.
We will provide in-house training within the role, and regular supervision and support are available. The post holder will work as part of the teamand take responsibility for their own caseload.
Past experience in speech and language therapy is not essential, but experience in working in healthcare would be desirable.
We need someone who has clear and effective written and verbal communication. Team working is an essential requirement of the role and you will be expected to join in with patient centred meetingsand discussions.
Having good IT skills/being computer literate is also an important part of the job.
