Job summary
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a highly-skilled and motivated ophthalmic nurse or AHP (orthoptist, optometrist) to lead our growing nursing and AHP team as they deliver our macular service. Our fabulous, purpose-built facility at the York Community Stadium has been open for 3 years, and is already delivering a high standard of care to the thousands of patients in the region with Macular degeneration, diabetes related and other sight-threatening macular conditions.
Last year alone we delivered over 25,000 intravitreal (eye) injections and with the trend for this treatment set to increase over the coming years, we are looking for a forward thinking, enthusiastic and dynamic individual to lead our macular service into the future. Our department offers nurse and AHP-delivered steroid implants in addition to IVT injections, and embraces the development of individuals to continue their professional learning and develop their skills and knowledge further.
The stadium is part of the York Hospital Eye department, and the lead for the stadium service will have joint responsibility for managing cross site staff, working closely with the Senior Sister at York Hospital and with the leads for the ophthalmic imaging service.
Main duties of the job
We are looking to recruit someone with significant ophthalmology experience, preferably with additional experience in the medical retina subspeciality, and an ability to perform intravitreal injections is desirable but not essential. You should have highly developed communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with all staff groups and patients alike.
The role is an exciting combination of clinical responsibility, mentoring, and service development. It is a great opportunity to develop line management skills with the backing of a supportive team, and to develop clinical skills alongside a supportive and friendly consultant body.
