Job summary
Phlebotomy is looking for either 2 x 25 hour per week Senior Phlebotomists Or 1 x 37.5 hour senior phlebotomist.
Working Monday to Friday with one Saturday, Sunday worked per month, bank holidays worked on a rota basis.
Senior phlebotomist 1, to work Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Senior phlebotomist 2, to work Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
You will need to be highly competent in Venepunture ideally using the sarstedt monovette system for at least 2 years.
Phlebotomy offers services at York Hospital, working on the wards and in outpatients. We also offer community services at the LNER Stadium Monks cross, Tadcaster, Sherburn and Selby War Memorial. The service is very busy. The team see over 230,000 hospital and GP patient's per year. The ability to work across all our service sites is pivotal.

Main duties of the job
In the Phlebotomy managers absence. You will provide daily supervision for a team of phlebotomists, whilst continuing to encourage their development.
Working to our high standards of phlebotomy, your professional and prioritisation skills will be the key to maintaining an efficient and timely service to the Trust, contributing to the delivery of the best possible care to our patients and the wider community.
To work closely with Medical, Nursing, and Laboratory staff to provide a rapid blood collection service, which is sensitive to service requirements on individual Wards, OPD or GP practices as appropriate.
To provide high quality, timely and effective phlebotomy services to patients in designated areas as directed.
To provide support and reassurance to patients when preparing them for venipuncture. including patients with learning disabilities or language difficulties.
To train staff and induct new staff, including assessing and declaring competency to practice for new staff,
To ensure efficient planning and prioritisation of individual workload and workload of phlebotomy staff.
To assist in the selection of new staff as directed by the Phlebotomy Manager and be conversant with regulations regarding legal and effective recruitment.
To monitor sickness within the team, and to deal at an informal stage, including return to work interviews, to perform yearly appraisals as directed by the Phlebotomy Manager.
