Job summary

We are looking for an Apprentice Assistant Audiology Practitioner to join our enthusiastic Audiology team at Harrogate Hospital.

As an Apprentice Assistant Audiology Practitioner, you will benefit from a 14 month fully funded and supported Level 2 Apprenticeship in Healthcare Science and earn a competitive apprenticeship salary whilst being part of a team and gaining transferable knowledge and skills.

The learning and assessment element of the apprenticeship will be delivered by Sheffield College, with a blended learning approach.

To meet the eligibility criteria for government funded apprenticeship schemes you must be:

  • Aged 16 or over
  • Been resident in the UK/EU for the last 3 years
  • Must NOT have a qualification at the same level or above in a related field, or already be in any form of formal government-funded education at the point of enrolment.
  • Must have GCSE band 4/grade C and above or Level 2 Functional Skills or equivalent in Mathematics and English, and be able to provide certification

It is also desirable to have one of the following qualifications:

  • Level 2/3 (GCSE/A Level) science qualification

Main duties of the job

Although an apprentice role, this vacancy is open to everyone regardless of age and ideal for anyone looking for a career within Audiology. Over a 14-month period, you will be fully funded to complete your apprenticeship around your working role.

You will be a responsible member of the Audiology Department, assisting the Audiologists with their role of providing help and assistance to hearing impaired patients of all ages.

So, what about the day job:

You will receive training on all aspects of the role to enable you to fulfil the responsibilities for the role outlined below:

Clerical

  • Updating patient information in CPD and Audit base.
  • Maintaining records on audit base of hearing aid stock.
  • Maintain records on audit base or impressions and ear-moulds. Receive earmoulds back from manufacturer and store in correct place or post to patient as necessary.
  • Dealing with daily post.

Clinical Responsibilities under Indirect supervision

  • Ensuring all rooms are stocked correctly.
  • Assisting hearing aid repair clinics by fetching patients re-tubing of ear-moulds and issuing batteries when required.
  • Attending to batteries and re-tubing earmoulds received in the post.
  • Packaging of impression and posting to ear-mould manufacturers and also unpacking earmoulds on receipt in the department
