Job summary

We are looking to recruitment a Team Leader in Ophthalmology theatres, based in York.

As a skilled and experienced professional, you will have the ability to use your own initiative and work collaboratively to solve problems and take action to address issues. You will demonstrate strong leadership and be able to communicate effectively with the theatre team and the wider MDT. You will be expected to be able to constructively challenge practice and must be able to inspire and motivate all grades of staff. Working collaboratively with our Clinical education team to develop our theatre workforce and meet the service and our patient's needs. You will be expected to display personal qualities of empathy, compassion and care for others.

The successful applicant will have a 1st Level Registered Nurse qualification with current NMC registration or qualified Operating Department Practitioner with HCPC registration and evidence of continuing professional development to degree level.

You should have substantive experience of at least 18 months at a Band 6 within the relevant areas and demonstrate expert clinical and professional practice evidenced through experience and theoretical knowledge. Your commitment to meet quality standards and on-going development of the team and service is vital.

Main duties of the job

JOB SUMMARY/ PURPOSE:

  • Continuing responsibility for the control and management of the theatre service, maintaining clinical excellence within the specialties.
  • Provision of expert specialist advice within the main theatres, throughout the York Hospital.
  • To develop and maintain highly specialised programmes of high standard patient care within the service.
  • Responsibility for the management, education and training of staff within the service, including students and trainees of all levels.
