Trainee Sonographer Ultrasound

Job summary

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join our Ultrasound team as a trainee sonographer.

  • Clinical placement provided across York, Selby, Malton, Scarborough and Bridlington hospitals. Base hospital site to be decided upon at successful interview. The individual would be expected to work and travel across multiple sites.
  • This is a 12-month full time programme or 24 month part time programme with a Postgraduate Diploma (PgDip) offered by the University of Leeds, starting September 2024.
  • The programme will consist of 5 modules with varied methods for assessment. The modules include Professional Issues, Physics and Technology, Obstetrics, Medicine and Gynaecology. You will be required to pass all modules to complete the PgDip. Upon successful completion of the PgDip the individual will be eligible to apply for a role as a sonographer.
  • The individual will be paid a band 6 salary with all the rights of an agenda for change staff member. Annual leave cannot be taken when University is scheduled.
  • This post will be subject to a training contract

What qualifications do I require? A 2:1 or above in a relevant undergraduate healthcare degree or science based subject related degree. NHS/healthcare experience is desirable as it will provide the basic skills and experience needed to complete this course.

  • It is desirable to hold registration with the NMC or HCPC.

Due to the nature of the interview process for this post, we are unable to accommodate remote interviews.

Main duties of the job

  • Gain all clinical and academic competencies to independently perform ultrasound examinations in Obstetrics, General Medicine and Gynaecology
  • Gain all clinical and academic competencies to provide a diagnostic report on ultrasound examinations undertaken.
  • Work as a team member within a multi-disciplinary team, providing a high quality ultrasound service whilst maintaining high standards of patient care
